She has been a plein-air painter since she was 4 years old which began at her grandparents summer cabin in the Okanagan in response to wild and wooly summer storms. She loves to paint in the changing moods of the outdoors as well as working from her own reference photographs in her studio. Since moving to Vancouver Island in 2017, she has regularly shown and sold her art out of her North Saanich studio. She is not attempting photo-realism but she does like to represent real things gazing through a lens to her own feelings, colours and various media. Making art is Monique’s way of expressing how she feels about what she sees in her daily landscape and her past connections. Her work is often based in nostalgia that she likes to refer to in her pieces. Art keeps her present and grounded in her busy daily life. |
